About Gravel Notes
Your new rally podcast
Gravel Notes aims to shine a light on rally culture whether that’s providing interviews, features and analysis from the World Rally Championship to simply the joys of collecting model rally cars and pretending to be a rally driver in the virtual world. If you have an interest in the WRC, rally computer games, model cars and slot car rallying this is the place for you.
Meet your host
Tom Howard
Tom first became obsessed with motorsport and rallying during the 1990s bolstered by the rise of Colin McRae and Richard Burns. He could be found glued to the TV screens whenever Top Gear Rally Report or latterly Virtual Spectator appeared on the screens. To this day he is still an avid rally model car/slot car collector and rally computer game obsessive.
Hooked in by motorsport, Tom embarked on a career in sports journalism beginning in local newspapers
After a period working as a freelance journalist, Tom moved to Australia in 2013 landing a job at leading Australian motorsport news outlet speedcafe.com, covering international motorsport events including F1, WRC and Supercars. Progressing to Editor in 2017, Tom was named Motorsport Australia Journalist of the Year for his work.
Tom moved back to his native UK in 2020, joining Autosport and Motorsport.com in 2021 to take up the role of WRC Journalist and host of the Gravel Notes Podcast. Today Tom works as a freelance motorsport journalist supplying, Autosport/Motorsport.com, Rally Plus and DAZN with WRC stories, features and analysis.
